40S Little Esky Golfing Figural Comic Esquire MagazineItem you are bidding on a really cool and exceedingly rare 1940's ifgural golf comic character display piece. This is composition in manufacture and the head removes and tilts to different comical proportions. This example measures 8 1/2 long and is based on the esquire magazine cover character esky or little esky, the enduring impish girl watching comic charactor that was created by teh african american illustrator elmer simms campbell, and resonated with american audiences for decades. The pop eyed walrus moustached ladies man appeared on covers of esquire magazine from 1934 1957, & was clearly styled after rich uncle pennybags the monopoly board game monicker and mascot. We previously had two similar in style and manufacture figural examples of these pop eyed comic characters for a womans corset company that were big ticket ebay auctions and wound up in an east coast advertising museum. This was likely manufactured by the mcgregor company, and tied in well with esquire magazine's man of leisure gentlemans audience and core following as the golfing theme is a perfect fit. We have a grouping of 4 fo these figures currently on ebay, we are selling these individually but all 4 are on on ebay so if you are looking to buy the collection you can bid accordingly! These are umch like the l. L. Rittgers baseball and wrestling figures in manufatcure and appearance but are rarer and larger. Condition this figure is in very fine condition, the bottom slot for his golf club on the base of this figure is missing a little bit of compsoition and needs a little glue, he has a little bit of surface scuffing and very minor paint loss looks great as seen as esky surveys the turf in an attempt to sink the putt. Was the creator of esky, the familiar pop-eyed mascot of esquire. 1. After winning a nationwide cartoon contest while he was in high.
